A core element across our work at Miller Research is to work within communities
at a grass roots level so we have a solid understanding of their needs and where
they would like to be in terms of future opportunities. Relevant work includes the
development of local cases for the Rural Community Action Programme in Wales, and
through specific regeneration studies we have undertaken.

We have extensive experience of developing strategies and action plans that strengthen
rural communities. This includes the preparation of local development strategies
and business plans under the Rural Development Plan for Wales, feasibility studies
for community facilities and services and undertaking strategic evaluation work
on rural programmes. Our rural location allows us to understand day to day issues
facing business and rural people and thereby create actions that deal with rural
isolation, use of technology, maximisation of local assets and an awareness of how
linkages across communities can be made.

We have supported a number of public sector clients with documents that present
the case for funding, in addition to preparing specific applications. Our approach
is to understand local needs, eligibility and funding criteria and to use these
to present integrated and complementary arguments that show value for money, generate
meaningful results and impacts, and provide clear mechanisms for delivery. Our work
ranges from European to domestic programmes for strategic and regional bodies as
well as for community organisations.

The creation of sustainable town centres has been a significant focus of our work
in recent years, specifically our retail distinctiveness work, town centre design
studies and wider regeneration strategy work. This involves comprehensive baseline
and health checks, engagement with key stakeholders and the wider community and
working within multi-disciplinary teams to develop solutions that stimulate town
centre economies. Our key aim is to bring about sustainable social and economic
outcomes as well as improving the physical quality of our towns.

The development of prosperous communities is central to what we do. Specific techniques
include an assessment of socio-economic statistics, labour market analysis, corresponding
national and local policies and areas of action, qualitative assessment of need
and developing solutions that develop the right conditions for investment, growth
and prosperity. Miller Research has developed economic development strategies for
specific towns, spatial areas and for individual projects.
