As part of Newport’s food and regeneration strategy, Miller Research worked for Newport Unlimited on the development of a food academy concept. Initial discussions with Coleg Gwent on existing learning provision were held and an assessment on the type of food academies that could be hosted in the Newport City setting and how such a facility would fit in with the broader regeneration masterplan activities for Newport. This involved a workshop with existing learning providers and a number of SSCs, a preliminary assessment of a City Centre building, development of a space schedule, indicative plans and a financial appraisal. The business plan outlined a suite of primary activities of the Food Academy along with secondary activities that provide added value. Indicative revenue streams over and above the main learning provision were also provided.
