Adnodd User Journey Research
Adnodd commissioned Miller Research, to undertake research. Adnodd is an independent company established by Welsh Government to coordinate and oversee the provision and commissioning of bilingual resources to support Curriculum for Wales and its qualifications for 3-19 year olds.
This commission has been developed in response to a need to develop high-quality educational resources suitable to Wales’ new curriculum in both English and Welsh, and for these resources to be co-constructed with practitioners. There is also a recognised need for further coordination and quality assurance of the development of educational resources for learners aged 3-19. Adnodd will provide a solution to these challenges, given its mandate to streamline and oversee the commissioning process and maximise the expertise fed into the development of these resources.
Miller Research have been contracted to conduct an engagement exercise with both practitioners, learners, and parents to identify what is known about existing Welsh, English, and bilingual education resources in Wales and what is needed for future resources. This exercise is intended to feed into Adnodd’s future work, helping to understand how users source and use educational resources, to enhance their experience and better support their needs. The insights gained will also inform our future approach to commissioning resources.
As part of this commission, Miller Research will be gathering information through different avenues.
- A series of workshops will be held, facilitated by Miller Research. Miller Research will ensure you cannot be identified from the personal information collected in the workshops and focus groups when the data is analysed and reported. We may need to record workshops for operational reasons. If this is the case, it will be made clear to you before the workshop begins, and you will have the opportunity to refuse for the discussion to be recorded. A workshop will only be recorded if all members of the group are happy for this to happen.
- A series of online scoping interviews will be carried out by Miller Research. Miller Research will ensure you cannot be identified from the personal information collected in the interviews when the data is analysed and reported.
- A series of moderated and unmoderated sessions to be run by UserTesting.com. Research will ensure you cannot be identified from the personal information collected in these sessions when the data is analysed and reported. When conducting sessions online, Miller Research use a software programme called UserTesting. We have ensured that UserTesting is UK GDPR compliant and meets our expectations in terms of the security of any data collected via the software.
- A survey for parents and learners to be held on either SmartSurvey or UserTesting software, collecting insights on their use and opinions on educational resources in Wales. We have ensured that SmartSurvey is UK GDPR compliant and meets our expectations in terms of the security of any data collected via the software. Surveys will be anonymous and no identifiable information collected.
Your participation is any of the above activity is voluntary and if you do not wish to take part or be sent reminders then please reply to the invitation email and your details will be removed.
The information collected during the project will be used internally by Adnodd to inform its future work in supporting practitioners, learners and parents with their resource needs. A report detailing findings from the research will be produced, with the potential for it to be shared on Adnodd’s website or with stakeholders such as Welsh Government.
Your Participation in this research is completely voluntary. However, your views and experiences are important in order to help inform Adnodd’s policies and processes.

What personal data do we hold and where do we get this information?
Personal data is defined under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) as ‘any information relating to an identifiable person who can be directly or indirectly identified by reference to an identifier’.
Miller Research will use your name, email address and telephone number for the purposes of this evaluation as well as any other data shared in the registration process.
What is the lawful basis for using your data?
The lawful basis for processing information in this data collection exercise is our public task; that is, exercising our official authority to undertake the core role and functions of Adnodd.
Participation is completely voluntary. Research studies such as this are important for Adnodd to collect information and actionable evidence to aid the delivery of its strategic priorities as defined by the Welsh Government.
How secure is your personal data?
Personal information provided to Miller Research is always stored on a secure server. The data can only be accessed by a limited number of researchers working on this project. Miller Research will only use this data for research purposes. Any project paperwork will be kept under lock in Miller Research’s offices. Miller Research has cyber essentials certification.
When conducting fieldwork, Miller Research will use software programmes such as d SmartSurvey or UserTesting. We have ensured that SmartSurvey and UserTesting are UK GDPR compliant and meets our expectations in terms of the security of any data that is collected via the software.
Miller Research has procedures to deal with any suspected data security breaches. If a suspected breach occurs, Miller Research will report this to Adnodd who will notify you and any applicable regulator where we are legally required to do so.
Miller Research will use the information gathered to produce a report for Adnodd. This report will not include any information that could be used to identify individual participants.
How long do we keep your personal data?
Miller Research will hold personal data during the contract period, and any personal data not already removed during data analysis will be deleted by Miller Research within three months of the end of the contract. This includes your contact details. If you express an interest for further opportunities with Miller Research, we will hold relevant contact details until you withdraw consent.
Miller Research will provide Adnodd with an anonymised version of the data which will not include information that could identify you.
Individual rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights in relation to the personal information you provide as part of this evaluation, specifically you have the right:
- To access a copy of your own data;
- For us to rectify inaccuracies in that data;
- To object to or restrict processing (in certain circumstances);
- For your data to be ‘erased’ (in certain circumstances); and
- To lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) who is our independent regulator for data protection.
