Commitment to achieving Net Zero
Miller Research is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030 (for required Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions), reporting progress annually and reducing rather than offsetting our emissions.
We have included optional emissions from teleworking and are committed to achieving Net Zero for these emissions by 2040.
Baseline Emissions Footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Emissions reduction targets
We believe that companies that have the best condition to reach science-based Net Zero should take the lead in climate action. We have set a target to become Net Zero in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, as well as required Scope 3 emissions by 2030.
These reductions stem from a shift to remote working. We project that carbon emissions from these Scopes will decrease over the next five years to 0.073 tCO2e by 2028. This is a reduction target of 96.9% compared to the 2019 baseline.
Progress against these targets can be seen in the graph below:

Our additional/residual Scope 3 emissions can be attributed to increased teleworking (working from home). Since Covid-19, we have become shifted to a predominately remote working model. Growth in our company headcount has resulted in a gradual increase in emissions from teleworking. Our teleworking emissions are expected to increase as we continue to grow as a business, our aim is to peak these emissions in 2027, at which point progress in grid and heat decarbonisation contributes to reducing our teleworking emissions. At the same time, we are investigating opportunities to reduce these emissions faster, and have an ambition to achieve Net Zero in the full suite of Scope 3 emissions by 2040.
Our actual and projected teleworking emissions can be seen in the graph below:

Carbon Reduction Initiatives
Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives
The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2019 baseline. The carbon emission reduction achieved by these schemes equate to 1.826 tCO2e, a 75.46% reduction against the 2019 baseline for Scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions (less teleworking).
We have reduced business travel, including private car journeys, public transport and flying to a minimum.
Our office is heated using sustainable wood pellets and lit with LEDs. The majority of electricity demand attained from company-owned photovoltaic panels and a wind turbine. The daily running of our office is near Net Zero with an EPC rating of A+. It was the 11th non-domestic building in Wales to achieve this rating.
We have an environmental management system certified to ISO14001:2015.
We are proud to be a certified B-Corp organisation. Our certification recognises our commitment to the highest standards of performance, accountability, and transparency in environment, social and governance practice. We achieved our B-Corp certification in 2022 with a rating of 119.5.
Planned Carbon Reduction Initiatives
We are actively exploring opportunities to:
- Move to paperless office working,
- Explore the impact of our pension schemes and banking and ensure these are divested,
- Explore the subsidisation of green tariffs for employees to foster heat decarbonisation and accelerate the pace of our teleworking emissions reductions,
