Towards the end of 2020 Miller Research was appointed by Welsh Government to conduct an evaluation of the Food and Drink Wales Industry Board (FDWIB).
The Food and Drink Board was established in 2015 with a purpose to grow, promote and enhance the reputation of the food and drink sector in Wales. Specifically, the Board aims to implement the actions set out in Towards Sustainable Growth: An Action Plan for the Food and Drink Industry 2014-2020. We conducted an evaluation to assess the impact the Board has made to develop and benefit the sector, its contribution to advance Welsh Government policies and whether it offers value for money.
Our methodology for the evaluation firstly involved a desktop review of relevant documentation followed by a series of interviews with key stakeholders, including Welsh Government officials, past and current Board members and relevant food and drink organisations to understand the key challenges and activities it faces.
The evaluation builds on our extensive experience of the food and drink sector in Wales, reviewing ‘big player’ organisations, such as our Evaluation of Food and Drink Clusters in Wales and the Food Skills Cymru Project.
We are delighted to have been involved in this evaluation and hope to continue to work with Welsh Government in the food and drink sector going forwards.
